Microsword is the creeping, carpeting plant you have been looking for!
It spreads, looks, and trims just like grass, but is similarly needy of light and co2.
Best for high- tech setups, but can survive in a lower tech aquascape. Be sure to give it as much light as you can.
This species (lilaeopsis novaezelandiae) grows about 1-3" tall underwater, and spreads laterally, through root nodes. Just snip and replant for propogation.
Excellent for sheltering baby shrimp or fry, and for growing excellent bio-films to improve the health of your whole tank.
As I like to keep real ecosystems in my aquariums, there's always the possibility of harmless snail or dwarf shrimp hitchhikers!
Rooted pots are between 3-6" tall.
