FAQ:

Q: How long will an Alder cone last?

A: Depending on the thickness, a single Alder cone can last up to a year.

Q: Is it safe to use many Alder cones in my aquarium What about with other botanicals such as Cholla wood, Driftwood, and Cattappa Leaves?

A: Yes, Organic Alder Cones are completely safe to use in your aquarium along with these other botanical items. You can't really have too many, but you may find the 'tea staining' of your water to be too much. This phenomenon is desirable for a lot of hobbyists though! It's called a 'Blackwater' aquarium.

Q: Are Alder cones safe for scaleless fish?

A: Yes, the tannins and pH-lowering abilities present in Alder cones make them a great choice for scale-less fish, like Corydoras.

Q: Do I need to prep these before adding them to my aquarium?

A: Maybe give them a quick rinse. These Alder cones and acorns are full of air pockets, and so will float for up to two days when you first add them to an aquarium. You can mitigate this (and remove much of the tannins) by boiling it for up to 5 minutes. Let them cool, and plop it in your fish tank!
