Neon Tetras are a calm, schooling nano fish originating in South American rivers. This species is probably one of the best-known nano fish - and for good reason! The colors are absolutely stunning, and they display strong schooling behaviors. You'll love watching a group hover and dart as one!
This species (Paracheirodon innesi) is typically wild caught, and somewhat difficult to captive breed. These are often confused with Cardinal Tetras - they do look quite similar! Neon Tetras have slightly different coloring, and are somewhat smaller. They have basically the same needs as most nano Tetra species.
These display the best coloring and behavior while in groups of 6+, and will grow to a maximum of 1.5 inches. They absolutely must be kept in schools of 6 or more, else they begin to behave erratically and retreat into hiding. When selecting tankmates, be sure to select other docile and calm community species, otherwise your tetras could become the subject of fish bullying!
They are peaceful but absolutely love tiny live food such as brine shrimp, Artemia, and other micro fauna. As they are mostly top and middle water column feeders, do be sure to give them slow-sinking or floating food. They generally don't like to dig around in the substrate.
Your Tetras will be young, without full adult coloration, and and about a 1/2" long.
