This variant of Tanichthys Albonubes (White Cloud Mountain Minnows) is hardy and dependable. Just an excellent all- round beginner fish for an active, community aquarium.
This species has origins in South Chinese rivers, but were long considered extinct in their natural habitat, due to development. They have been re-discovered, but are still listed as endangered. Almost all White Cloud Minnows available within the fish trade are captive-bred. Mine are homegrown here in Kansas, and have been bred to have longer, more colorful and fluttery dorsal, anal, and pectoral fins. The females are generally rounder, and have shorter fins, but you'll love the show the males put on for you!
These display the best coloring and behavior while in groups of 6+, and prefer cooler tank water. Excellent for unheated smaller fish tanks!
They are peaceful and absolutely love live food such as baby brine shrimp, Artemia, and other micro fauna. While omnivorous, be sure to feed them a higher protein diet with a bit of vegetable flake here and there.
As these guys are mostly top top middle- column dwellers, do be sure to add food types that are either slow-sinking or will float till they are consumed. White Clouds don't generally like to go rooting or digging around for food on the bottom.
Your minnows will be young, and between 1/2" to 3/4" long.
