The Golden Pencilfish (Nannostomus beckfordi) is a highly sought-after community fish that is known for its small size, colorful appearance, and unique rarity.
Golden Pencilfish are commonly found in the top and middle portions of the water column, but can also be observed feeding in the middle and bottom levels. They are compatible with other peaceful, small fish, as well as adult dwarf shrimp. However, caution should be taken with smaller dwarf shrimp and their offspring, as they may be consumed by adult Golden Pencilfish. Peaceful, larger invertebrates can also coexist with them in the same tank. To ensure their well-being, it is recommended to keep Golden Pencilfish in schools of 6 or more.
Golden Pencilfish thrive and maintain color with varied diet including meaty foods like flake food, pellets, and frozen or freeze-dried options.
