The Freshwater Bumblebee Goby (Brachygobius xanthomelas) is a colorful, interesting fish that thrives in freshwater. It originates from Indonesia and can be found in swamps and estuaries in the surrounding countries.
Unlike most Gobies, this species is unique in its ability to thrive in freshwater and does not dwell in brackish areas.
The Freshwater Bumblebee Goby is small but has a "grumpy" personality and will claim a territory in the aquarium. It needs adequate space for tankmates and a group of at least 6 is recommended to spread aggression. Avoid keeping it with long-finned or slow-moving fish, but larger shrimp may be compatible with enough space.
Feed the Bumblebee Goby with frozen or live meaty foods since it does not typically eat dry food. It moves slowly, making it important to ensure it gets enough food when housed with faster tankmates. It does not harm plants.
While the Freshwater Bumblebee Goby may require special care, it offers a one-of-a-kind experience for aquarists seeking a unique and interesting species to add to their tanks.
