"Arrived in great condition. I ordered the large duckweed and lesser duckweed."

- Samantha Via Etsy

Lesser or "Common" Duckweed is a super fast-growing floater, common worldwide.

"Lemna spp" is the the smallest flowering plant in the world, and quickly grows to cover the surface of any body of water it is put in. There have been studies on this extraordinary plant to provide a human source of vegetable protein, and is already grown for food in some parts of the world.

It is also a great food source for many animals in the wild, especially things like turtles and water fowl. Excellent nutrient uptake to keep your nitrates down as well!

2oz portion is roughly a small condiment cup size.

Care Parameters:

  • Lower light requirements
  • 45-85 degrees Fahrenheit
  • No special tank requirements
  • Food source for reptiles
  • Fast growth, low maintenance

As I like to keep real ecosystems in my aquariums, there's always the possibility of harmless snail or dwarf shrimp hitchhikers!

Rancid

Unfortunately something must have happened during the shipping process because the duckweed was absolutely rancid. I still can't get out of my head how bad the container and whole shipping box smelled. I was almost tempted to try to rinse it off and salvage some but needed to throw away all of it and the packaging immediately lest the aroma be immortalized.

Love it

This duckweed arrived healthy, split it between two tanks and it is thriving still a month later. Lots and lots and lots of “pest snails” were scooped into it. One red rams horn and several bladder snails and I suspect bladder snails eggs. The bladder snails are a little annoying but not a huge deal. The rams horn hasn’t bred yet and is pretty cool looking so I don’t really mind.
